Here is where a fragrance pyramid comes into play made up of multiple fragrance notes. There are top notes, middle notes and base notes.
The top notes are the first ingredients to dissipate and fade away as the Scentsy Bar warms. The middle notes also referred to as heart notes gives a fragrance it’s true character while lasting longer and having a louder. Base notes also referred to as dry down notes project the loudest, they are responsible for grounding a fragrance, balancing it and making it last.
Every fragrance comprises of carefully selected top, middle and base notes to create a perfectly balanced scent. Within the three categories of the Scent Pyramid are nine different fragrance families. Every known fragrance note will fall into one of these nine categories. This structure helps in understanding how a fragrance evolves from the moment it is first experienced until the lingering after-scent.
Top notes has three categories, citrus like bergamot, lime and mandarin which are clean, fresh, sparling or tart notes. A fragrance that is known for its citrus top notes is Monac Urban inspired by Xerjoff Erba Pura where its top notes focus on the citrus category of Sicilian orange, Sicilian lemon, Calabrian bergamot. Another category found in top notes is green like basil, thyme and peppermint that gives of a grassy, minty scent. Monac Why inspired by YSL Y has this green top note with mint included in it’s top notes. The last category that can be found in top notes is ozonic which are fresh, marine, airy and fresh. These are light, watery scents or aldehydes which are capable of stimulating many different scents. Middle notes also include three categories, floral which are like Jasmine, rose and gardenia. These are sweet, soft, full body notes. Another category is Spice, such as cinnamon, clove and nutmeg which are rich, warm and dry. Lastly middle notes can also include the category of fruity such as apple, cherry, strawberry etc. These are ripe, juicy and sweet. Monac Watermelon Lemonade by Monac Attar is Bright and fresh. Base notes have three categories one being gourmand like vanilla, butter, brown sugar and coca. It gives of a creamy, bake, edible aroma. Monac Butterscotch Brulee has a rich, creamy scent that combines sweet butterscotch with a touch of dark vanilla and caramelized sugar some say it has baking undertones. Another is Woody, like sandalwood or cedarwood which are dry and earthy. Woody inspired by Tom Ford has a composition of exotic, smoky woods including rare oud, sandalwood, rosewood. Lastly base notes can be in a category of musk which can be sweet, powdery or animalic. Monac Imperialism inspired by Creed Imperium Millime is an example of a fragrance with the musky category.
